Technically there is no issue, you should select proper expiration date of the current active term and make sure does not cross over with the renewal term. Please, see my explanation below.
The start renewal date is always counted as +1 day from the expiration date. If current expiration is Dec 31, 2024, then the renewal start date in Jan 1, 2025.

If you change current expiration date, the renewal dates change as well.
If you click on “Edit Renewal” and change the end date of the membership renewal it will be looped and not processed properly upon payment.
You'd have to first change the current expiration and only then start the renewal or at least make sure that the current expiration and start of the renewal are not crossed over.
Most commonly this happens when you try to process more than 1 renewal at a time right after completing the application or importing membership. Also, when you try to process renewal as an application for an imported membership.
